A Spreadsheet is used to perform calculations on a set of data in an organized, efficient manner. The power of a Spreadsheet comes from its capability to do many calculations using formulas. Because formulas refer to cell-locations, editing cells automatically updates the formulas. Unlike Data Tables, Spreadsheets are not limited to field-types for columns. Many data types are often represented in each row or column.
Spreadsheets also encourage algebraic thinking for students who are learning to write formulas using cell references instead of entering constant values.
The Spreadsheet can be used independently or in conjunction with a Scatterplot, Histogram, or Box Plot. While Spreadsheets are fully functional without the link, sometimes there are powerful reasons to link a Spreadsheet to a graph.
